Since its inception, Cloud computing has gained a reputation for multiple vulnerabilities. The basic problem: traditional security tools have been stretched thin trying to keep up with rapidly growing volumes of public, private and hybrid Cloud data.

Cloud security is now at a tipping point

However, within the past year, a new generation of Cloud-based security tools and improved architectures has been closing the gap. As a result, Cloud security is now projected to exceed that of non-cloud security architecture in the near future. That said, it’s important to be aware nothing on the Internet will ever be 100% secure. In addition, organizations have varied, often divergent, security needs.

Growing cloud-based security advantages

  • Cloud solutions provide increasingly efficient use of resources along with greatly expanded capacity and lower costs.
  • Early adopters report increased revenue and profit margins resulting from higher levels of innovation, collaboration and marketing agility.
  • Large Clouds are geographically dispersed around the globe, allowing for the rapid accumulation of security intelligence. This permits easier tracking and control of threats.
  • Clouds now provide more secure client/server communications including easier, more effective encryption management. In more technical terms, new security software improvements facilitate the creation of flatter, more secure and easier to manage networks.
  • Contrary to common opinion, customers housed in the Cloud can’t attack one another (unless an external data center is owned by a competitor). In most all cases, ‘virtualization’ seals off each tenant’s information from that of others.
