As an award-winning digital agency in Houston, we make our living off emerging trends in business and technology and applying those innovations to create real-world solutions for companies looking for an edge in an ever-competitive landscape. We all started somewhere, and we remember the people who helped us and resources we needed along the way. For these reasons, every year OWDT awards students on their academic journeys that have something to say about the trends and issues taking place in our digitally-connected world.
As a creative agency, we have a keen interest in hearing from students who hold compelling views on web design, digital marketing, technology, and business. The participant that produces the most creative and innovative piece is awarded the scholarship prize, and their submission may be posted online for public viewing.
We selected the winner based on three criteria: writing focus, the relevance of the content to the topic chosen, and general readability. Provided with issues across the digital art spectrum, participants could choose the subject they found most interesting, relevant, or meaningful and speak to its current significance.
Our 2018 recipient, Christine Lam, penned a well-written and thoughtful take on Carter Wilkerson’s viral tweet that earned him free chicken nuggets for a year from Wendy’s. It highlighted the infectious, viral nature of social media and how brands can wield the economic platform and opportunity to engage customers in strengthening brand recognition, driving traffic, and increasing profits. Lam argues the future for brands and business is in social media.
